Cut corners on the electrical and you could be looking at tripping safety switches, a system that chews power and warranty claims that get knocked back because the install wasn't compliant. For rental properties, this means no certificate and your property manager can't sign it off.

Questions Perth homeowners ask about Split System Installation
Do you install the unit itself or just the electrical?
JOA handles the full electrical side of your split system installation. That includes running a dedicated circuit from your switchboard, fitting the isolator switch, completing the cable runs between the indoor and outdoor units, and issuing a compliance certificate on completion.
We don’t supply or mount the air conditioning unit itself, your split system installer or supplier takes care of that. But we’re happy to coordinate timing so the electrical is ready when the unit goes up, or wire it the same day if the unit is already mounted. Call us to talk through your setup.
How long does a split system air con installation take?
Most split system air conditioner installations take between two and four hours for the electrical work. That covers the dedicated circuit, isolator switch, wiring between the indoor and outdoor units, and testing.
Timeframes can shift depending on how far the switchboard is from the unit, whether the cable run needs to go through a roof space or cavity wall, and the condition of your existing switchboard. If we spot anything that could add time, like a full board that needs a circuit breaker upgrade, we’ll flag it in the quote, not on the day.
Do I need a dedicated circuit for my air conditioner?
Yes. Australian wiring standards require a split system air conditioner to run on its own dedicated circuit. That means a separate circuit breaker in your switchboard, wired directly to the unit. No shared loads with lighting, power points, or other appliances.
A dedicated circuit prevents the system from tripping your safety switch under load, protects the unit from voltage fluctuations, and keeps your manufacturer’s warranty valid. It’s a non-negotiable part of every split system aircon installation we do.
Will I get a compliance certificate?
Every split system installation we complete comes with a compliance certificate issued the same day. It’s emailed directly to you, or to your property manager if you prefer,as soon as the job is signed off.
The certificate confirms that the electrical work meets Australian standards and WA regulations. You’ll need it if you’re renting the property out, making an insurance claim, or if the manufacturer ever queries the install as part of a warranty claim. We don’t leave site without it being done.
How much does a split system installation cost?
Every job is different, so we quote on a case-by-case basis. The cost of your split system aircon installation depends on a few things: the distance between the switchboard and the unit, the complexity of the cable run, whether your switchboard has capacity for an additional circuit, and how accessible the mounting location is.
We provide a fixed quote upfront. No call-out fee, no hidden charges, and no price changes on the day. Tell us what unit you’ve got and where it’s going, and we’ll have a quote back to you within 24 hours in most cases.
