Electrical Fault Finding for Your Home, Investment Property or Rental
Guesswork Electrical Repairs Cost You More Than the Original Fault
The problem with most callouts is the sparky treats the symptom instead of diagnosing the fault. The tripping stops for a week, but then it eventually comes back and you end up paying again. Meanwhile, proper electrical fault finding the first time saves you the second callout, the third callout and the stress of not knowing what's going on behind your walls.

Electrical Faults Properly Diagnosed
- Root Cause Diagnosis: We test systematically until we find exactly what's causing the issue.
- Fixed Quote: You get a quote for the electrical fault repair before we touch anything.
- Single Visit: Most faults diagnosed and repaired on the same visit.

Questions Perth homeowners ask about Electrical Fault Finding
What counts as an electrical fault?
Tripping safety switches, flickering lights, dead power points, burning smells, buzzing from the switchboard or circuits that cut out at random. Basically, if something electrical isn’t doing what it’s supposed to, that’s a fault.
Some are obvious. A power point dies or a circuit trips the moment you switch on the oven. Others are harder to pin down: a safety switch that trips at 2am for no clear reason, or lights that flicker only when the air con’s running. Electrical fault finding starts by testing each circuit methodically to work out exactly where the problem sits and what’s behind it.
How long does fault finding take?
Depends on the fault. Straightforward ones, a tripped RCD caused by a dodgy appliance, for example, can be sorted in under an hour. Intermittent issues buried in older wiring take longer. Most electrical fault finding jobs land somewhere between one and two hours.
The diagnosis doesn’t get rushed. Finding the root cause on the first visit is the whole point. It’s what stops you paying for repeat callouts. If the fault turns out to be bigger than expected, we’ll walk you through what we’ve found and quote the electrical fault repair before going any further.
Will you fix the fault on the same visit?
Most of the time, yes. Once the fault’s been diagnosed, we quote the repair on the spot. If you’re happy with the price, the electrical fault repair happens right then. No second booking needed.
Sometimes a repair needs parts we don’t carry or more time than a single visit allows. When that’s the case, we’ll tell you exactly what’s required and lock in a follow-up. You’ll always know what’s wrong and what it’ll cost before anything gets touched.
My safety switch keeps tripping. Is that a fault?
Almost always. A safety switch trips when it picks up current leaking to earth. Could be a faulty appliance, damaged cable, moisture sitting in a junction box or a worn-out power point. The odd trip during a big storm? Not unusual. But if it’s happening on a regular basis, something’s wrong and it needs electrical fault finding to track it down.
The way we do it is circuit by circuit. Isolate the one that’s tripping, then narrow it down: specific fitting, cable run or connection. Once we’ve found it, we quote the fix and get it done. Usually all on the same visit.
How much does electrical fault finding cost?
It varies. Every fault is different and the cost depends on how complex the issue is, how many circuits need testing and how long the diagnosis runs.
There’s a fixed diagnostic fee that covers the investigation. Go ahead with the electrical fault repair on the same visit and we quote that separately. You’ll see the full breakdown before you agree to anything. No hidden charges. No hourly rate that blows out. No surprises when the invoice lands.
