Home Rewiring for Older Homes, Renovations and Investment Properties
Old Wiring Doesn't Just Stop Working. It Becomes Dangerous.
The signs aren't always obvious. From flickering lights, warm power points, tripping switches and burning smells, these are all indicators that something is wrong. But sometimes there are no signs at all until something fails. For properties being sold, leased or renovated, outdated wiring creates compliance issues that can hold up the entire process. That's when electrical rewiring stops being optional and becomes urgent.

Questions Perth homeowners ask about Home Rewiring
How do I know if my home needs rewiring?
If your home was built before the 1990s and the wiring hasn’t been updated, it’s worth getting it inspected. Flickering lights, warm power points and frequent tripping are common signs — but plenty of old wiring shows no symptoms at all until something goes wrong.
Other red flags: ceramic fuses still in the switchboard, rubber or cloth-sheathed cabling visible in the roof space, or power points that spark when you plug something in. If you’re renovating, selling or leasing the property, an inspection will tell you whether home rewiring is needed and how extensive the job would be.
How long does a full home rewire take?
Most home rewiring jobs take between three and five days for a standard three-bedroom house. Larger homes, double-storey properties or places with limited roof and wall access can take longer.
The timeline depends on how much of the existing wiring needs replacing, how accessible the cable routes are and whether any plastering or patching is needed afterwards. We map all of this out during the quoting stage so you’ve got a clear timeline before work starts, not a vague estimate that keeps stretching.
Do we need to move out during the rewire?
Not usually. For most jobs, you can stay in the home while the electrical rewiring is being done. Power gets switched off in sections as we work through each circuit, but we plan the job so you’re not left completely without electricity overnight.
If the rewire is extensive, say, a full gut renovation where walls are being opened up then yes, it might make more sense to be out of the house. We’ll tell you upfront what to expect so you can plan around it.
Will you need to open up walls?
Sometimes, but less than you’d think. Most of the cable routing goes through the roof space and wall cavities. Where we do need access points, we keep them small and patch them neatly.
For older homes where the existing wiring is run through conduit or surface-mounted, there may be more wall work involved. For newer builds or homes with accessible ceiling spaces, it’s mostly concealed. We walk through the property before quoting so we can tell you exactly where access is needed and what the finish will look like.
How much does a home rewire cost?
Every house is different. The cost of home rewiring depends on the size of the property, the number of circuits, how accessible the ceiling and wall spaces are and how much of the existing wiring needs to come out.
We quote everything upfront fixed price, no call-out fee, no hourly rates creeping up. Tell us about the property and what’s driving the rewire and we’ll come back with a number. Usually within 24 hours.
